Student engagement

If you believe, as we do, that sustainability will be a feature of everyone’s career then student engagement is clearly critical.

This is about more than just teaching a sustainability module. Engaging through the whole experience ensures that the graduate comes out with the attributes you have identified.

We can help you engage with your students to ensure they understand your commitment to sustainability and leave your university with the right values and attributes.

We have carried out student engagement projects for:

  • Queen Margaret University
  • Vitae – in the form of GradSchools and EnviroGrad for PhD students
  • The National Union of Students and People and Planet, through a series of presentations and lectures

For example we have:

  • Worked with the student experience committee at Queen Margaret University to identify where the opportunities to embed sustainability into the student experience. We have helped them to link the student experience with sustainability in the curriculum and with graduate attributes so the university has a holistic approach to the student experience around sustainability.
  • Delivered a series of GradSchools called EnviroGrad working directly with PhD students looking at skills development, team work and career choices. Using Jimmy as course director we specifically helped the students to think about how they might have an environmentally-focused or sustainability career. As part of the course we used our networks to set up a networking evenings so the students had chance to meet and talk with professionals from the sustainability world.
  • Spoken at student events. Jimmy gives presentations and lectures both in the UK and internationally. Working with the NUS and People and Planet he gives presentations and runs awareness sessions for students on sustainability and sustainable procurement.
